Hello and welcome to the Wantage Fire Station website. Wantage, birthplace of King Alfred the Great, is a small Market Town in the County of Oxfordshire, situated close to the ancient Ridgeway footpath and the famous chalk White Horse. With a crew of fourteen, our Fire Engine responds to an average of 260 calls per year ranging from rural emergencies to the typical house fire. Wantage Fire Station is ‘Retained’ which means that all the crew have other jobs and respond to a pager when activated.
In 1704, Wantage acquired its first Fire Fighting appliance and we are therefore celebrating over 300 years of service.
